Cook County Collaborative Law Attorneys
For many couples, divorce is the most painful and damaging experience of their lives. For these people, moving on can be a real challenge. For couples that are willing and able to work together, however, divorce doesn't have to be a battle.
Collaborative law and mediation provide alternative approaches that help couples work through their disputes together and make mutual decisions. Whether you are going through an uncontested divorce or have several disputes to settle, collaborative law or mediation can provide the tools to do so with respect and dignity.
As members of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, the lawyers at K & R Family Legal Services, L.L.P., are committed to offering you solutions that are "supportive, considerate, sensible, constructive and mutual."
Understanding Collaborative Law
The purpose of a collaborative law divorce is to give spouses the opportunity to resolve their disputes without litigation. At the beginning of the process, the spouses and their attorneys all sign an agreement stating their commitment to negotiate resolutions to all outstanding issues.
The collaborative approach allows the parties to keep private matters private and work through their issues together. The process promotes effective communication and allows the parties to retain decision-making control. In addition, the collaborative process has been shown to improve the chances for long-term cooperation between the parties.
Effective Illinois Mediation Services
In mediation, our Northbrook family mediation attorney serves as a neutral third party whose only goal is to help the spouses reach agreement on all outstanding issues. Our attorney does not represent either spouse so as to avoid any conflict of interest in the negotiations. We also represent parties as their attorneys as they go through the mediation process.
